First Visit Pre-Op Consultation Prior to oral surgery, we request that every patient be seen for a pre-surgical consultation. This visit enables us to: - Evaluate your medical status. We may need to consult with your physician to determine the safest means of accomplishing your surgery. This may include changing your medicine regime temporarily to accommodate for an extraction procedure.
- Review your procedure and prepare you for what to expect at the time of your surgery. Also provide you with post-operative information such as modified diet and duration of limited activities.
Many times patients are unaware of the benefits of a pre-surgical consultation appointment. Sometimes, we find that we are unable to perform surgery on the same day as the consultation appointment due to the medical condition of the patient. Often, patients overlook or forget about specific conditions or current medications. Examples of conditions and medications that alter our treatment include: - Diabetes
- High blood pressure
- Anxiety
- Heart murmur or valve replacement
- Prosthetic joint replacement
- Pregnancy
- Acute infections
- Blood thinners or aspirin use
| By eliminating the unknowns from your oral surgery experience, we diminish your apprehension and increase the predictability of a safe procedure and a successful outcome. Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation: - Your surgical referral slip and any X-rays if applicable.
- A list of medications you are presently taking
- If you have medical or dental insurance, bring the necessary completed forms.
This will save time and allow us to help you process any claims. IMPORTANT: All patients under the age of 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the consultation visit. A pre-operative consultation and physical examination is mandatory for patients undergoing IV anesthesia for surgery. Please have nothing to eat or drink after midnight prior to your surgery. You will also need an adult to drive you home. Please alert the office if you have a medical condition that may be of concern prior to surgery (i.e. diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, etc.) or if you are on any medications (i.e. heart medications, aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, etc.) X-Ray If your dentist or physician has taken x-rays, you may request that they forward them to our office. If there is not enough time, please pick them up and bring them to our office. If additional films are necessary, they can be taken at our facility. |
